After 45 long years, Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, has stepped down from all his duties on March 13, 2020. In 2008, Bill made it clear that he is now more interested in philanthropy more than running the company that he and Paul Allen founded. Was the decision influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic? Only Bill can tell.
Bill was partially involved in both Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway’s day-to-day operations. In 2000, Steve Ballmer replaced Bill Gates as the CEO of Microsoft Corporation. After 14 successful years, Satya Nadella was assigned as the CEO.
In a LinkedIn post, Bill shared his future plans and also clarified why he is stepping down when he could easily continue working for the company. Bill and his wife Melinda have been involved in charity work for the last 20 years.
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) was founded in the year 2000 and since then, the married couple has shared their wealth with millions of unfortunate people worldwide.
Why Did Bill Step down from the Microsoft Board?
Focusing more attention on philanthropic priorities is Bill’s primary reason behind stepping from his duties at Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway. Bill wants to dedicate the rest of his life to helping the ones who need a good education, healthy food, and a sense of direction in life. He is also quite interested in making people aware of the hazards of climate change.
Until now, Bill and Melinda have donated their money to 13 charity organizations (on a regular basis) and 17 causes lead by independent activists. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has centers located all over the world. China, India, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and South Africa are countries where Bill and Melinda have focused most of their attention.
