Eros International or Eros Now has recently decided to shift its entire operations to a cloud computing service called Azure by Microsoft. Eros Now is an Indian motion picture production and distribution company based in Mumbai. They offer to watch Bollywood movies on their web and mobile platforms. This service is popular all around the globe. In the last 7 years, they have attracted about 18.8 million paid subscribers and 155 million users worldwide.
What is Microsoft Azure? How will Eros use it?
Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing platform mainly used by IT firms to build, deploy and manage their software applications. Everything from source code to the database can be stored at a Microsoft-managed data center.
Have you heard of Virtual Machine Software? Ever wondered how it works? In case you don’t know, a Virtual Machine Software allows you to run one operating system into another. For instance, with a VM software, you can emulate a Linux OS on a Windows PC. In between your PC and CPU, Azure adds another layer called a Hypervisor. The hypervisor creates a virtual machine on each server located at the data centers across the world.
Eros Now has bought a bunch of racks(each rack holds multiple servers and each server has a Hypervisor) from Microsoft which they are planning to control via a web portal(called Azure Portal). Eros will be able to create multiple virtual machines. Hence, it makes it easy to upload, download, or stream content for both Eros and it’s 155 million users worldwide.
How will Eros Now benefit by moving its operations to Microsoft Azure?
Eros is not just a movie streaming service but also a technically savvy firm. They have seen it all. The company began the journey from the days of VHS video cassettes and is still standing tall. Credit goes to their innovative mindset and willingness to adapt to the ever-changing technology.
The current owners of Eros trust in Microsoft’s ability to innovate in cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Plus, Microsoft also has been active in the field of voice recognition technology and big data. The above factors convinced the owners of Eros to migrate their operations to Azure.
What do people at Eros Now and Microsoft think about this tie-up?
Rishika Lulla Singh, CEO of Eros Digital made a statement saying, “We feel that Azure can help us to drive a lot of our ambitions to create the correct architecture for the video platform, It was the sheer sophistication of the product over everything else on the market.” She also believes that this collaboration will take Eros to a whole new level.
On the other side, Anant Maheshwari, president of Microsoft India also added his insights “India is among the fastest-growing entertainment and media markets globally, with cutting-edge innovation in content creation, distribution and data insights, our partnership with Eros Now is a significant milestone. Together, we hope to redefine the video viewing experience for consumers in India and across the globe.”
