How to Boot Into Safe Mode Windows 10 [Updated Guide-2020]

Are you wondering how to boot into Safe Mode on your Windows 10 machine?

A lot of people who hadn’t used the Safe Mode feature of Windows 10 for a while are thinking about the same thing. Microsoft has changed the way it’s operating systems function and you no longer will be able to boot into Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key while your Windows is still starting up. Even other ways like Shift Key + F8 do not function. So what is the correct solution?

Here Are Few Easy Ways to Boot Into Safe Mode of Your Windows 10 Machine

1) Power on and power off method

Step1:

Make sure your computer is switched off before you try this technique. Switch on the computer by pressing the power button.

Step 2:

As soon as the computer starts, you will most likely see the motherboard logo or Windows 10 icon on the screen. Press the power button for 3 seconds and let the computer restart.

Step 3:

Again, let the computer start and as soon as you see the motherboard logo or Windows icon, press the power button for 3 seconds. Repeat this step one more time.

Step 4:

The third time your PC restarts, let it run without any hindrance. Your PC will boot into Safe Mode. Bear in mind that this is the easiest way to boot your computer into Safe Mode.

2) Access Safe Mode via Windows Settings

Step1

Go to Windows Settings by clicking on the start icon located at the bottom-left corner of your screen.

Step 2:

As shown in the screenshot below, click on Update & Security.

Step 3:

In the left sidebar, locate the option labeled as Recovery.

Step 4:

Scroll down to Advanced Startup and click on Restart Now as depicted below.

3) Boot to Safe Mode via Windows Recovery Drive

Step1:

In case something happens to your operating system–to bail you out of trouble– Windows comes with an option to create a recovery drive. You can backup your operating system in a flash drive or a high-capacity disk. You can go through this post by Microsoft on this particular topic.

Step 2:

Restart the computer and attach the flash drive to the PC. Windows will ask you to click on a few options before it sends you to the Troubleshooting section.

Step 3:

Next, select Troubleshoot –> Advanced options –> Startup Settings –> Restart.

Step 4:

Upon rebooting the computer the second time, the system will ask you to choose from a bunch of options. Select the option with Safe Mode as a label. You are in Safe Mode now.

Summary

Most people think of running their computer in Safe Mode only when they are faced with a virus issue or one of the hardware components is not responding as it should. During Safe Mode, Windows operates your computer without the core components. Hence, it is easier for you to fix any hardware or software problems.
