There is bad news for Windows 7 users and fanatics. Microsoft has ended support for Windows 7 Operating System since January 14, 2020. Since it’s release on October 22, 2009, Microsoft has provided relentless support for this product.
However, they also had promised to be with the user for a tenure of 10 years. After fulfilling the promise, the management at Microsoft has decided to shift its focus on the newer versions of Windows.
In a statement released on their website, they said: “This 10-year period has now ended, and Microsoft has discontinued Windows 7 support so that we can focus our investment on supporting newer technologies and great new experiences.”
You will be surprised to learn that the major chunk of the PC users still uses Windows 7. A report published by StatCounter reveals that, as of December 2019, there are about 26.79% of PC users still have Windows 7 installed on their computer. Just have a look at the chart placed below.
What Exactly Does “End of Support” Mean for a Windows 7 User?
This is a tricky situation for a Windows 7 user who wishes to continue using the same version of the operating system. You can continue using the operating system as long as you wish, but you won’t get the privileges that you used to get or a Windows 8 or Windows 10 user gets. Microsoft will be stripping off the following services for a Windows 7 user:
1) Technical support for any issues
2) Software updates
3) Security updates or fixes
Microsoft strictly recommended Windows 7 users to upgrade to a newer version soon. Without the latest security updates and patches, your computer is vulnerable to viruses and attackers. It is a whole different thing if you only use your computer for entertainment purposes, but otherwise, it is safer and wiser to upgrade.
