In a recent YouTube video published by the Microsoft Flight Simulator team, Sven Mestas, Lead Game Designer from Asobo Studio revealed that the new Microsoft Flight Simulator will feature every single airport on present on the face of the Earth. Sven mentioned that, in addition to 24,000 airports, the popular classic video game will come with an additional 13,000 airports– 37,0000 in total.
This is fantastic news for those who love playing this unusually addictive video game. If you are new to Microsoft Flight Simulator, I’d like to call your attention to the fact that, this game was also included in Microsoft’s older operating systems such as for MS-DOS and Classic Mac OS. This game has been around since November 1982–released 37 years ago.
The last update was released on December 18, 2014. Microsoft Flight Simulator fans and others in the gaming community have been patiently waiting for a change. Finally, their wish has come true. Lastly, this seven-time Guinness World Records winner game can also be used by aviation fanatics and aspiring pilots. In the YouTube video, Sven talks about how the game helps you learn more about the so-called “Airport Life”.
What Are the New Additions to Microsoft Flight Simulator
1) Covers All Airports on Earth
The more airports the game covers, the more popular the game gets as people from lesser-known nations also get to join the fun. The game also simulates the area or region surrounding the airport. The previous version of this game did not show the activity happening at the airport. After this update, you will get to experience a whole new culture, every time you fly to a new country.
2) Edits and Improvements Made in the Previously Existing Airports
The Microsoft Flight Simulator team has also made significant changes in the previously existing airports. After surveying those older airports with the use of the latest drone technology, they made the necessary modifications as per the data received. The world has changed a lot since the last five years and this update was necessary, in my opinion.
3) You Have the Ability to Customize an Airport
This feature is cherished by aviation students and fanatics from all around the world. They get to customize the airport to a level no other Flight Simulator allows them to. They can set the perimeter to the airport, set the dimensions of the runway, and define taxiways. All these tiny factors are taken into account by the pilot planning to land or take-off from the airport.
Talking to LadBible, Sven shared his thoughts on the update:
“In order to reach a new level of reality in flight simulation, we needed a new approach,” he said. “That’s why we decided to innovate by editing airports from real satellite pictures. This technique involves editing each airport manually, which means particular attention to detail has been given to every single one of them, to bring them a step closer to reality.”
