Indian American business executive Sunder Pichai has been named as the CEO of Alphabet Inc, Google’s parent company. This announcement was made in the first week of December 2019. Although this wasn’t a huge surprise for a lot of people, the stepping down of Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin did raise a few eyebrows.

Sunder has been a part of Google since 2004. He joined the big tech from a management consulting firm, McKinsey & Company. Unlike Larry and Sergey, Pichai does not come from an entrepreneurial background, he joined Google as a management trainee and worked his way up the corporate ladder. Hence, most of Google’s investors were expecting him to step into this role sooner or later.

More on the same topic, both Google co-founders received a retirement bonus as Alphabets shares rose 1.9 percent in New York. Although they might not be functional in companies day to day operations, Larry and Sergey both own 6 percent of the company shares each. A similar rise (in stock prices) was seen with Apple and Microsoft in October 2019.

Alphabet INC No Longer Have a Founder in the Organization

Alphabet Inc, like other big tech companies, no longer a founder in the organization. All the operations will be handled by the CEO. There is a growing trend of founder-free organizations in Silicon Valley. Just look at Microsoft, Uber, and Apple.

Obviously, Larry and Sergey still will have power over making certain decisions pertaining to the organization, they just won’t be present in the office every day.

What Message Did Sundar Pichai Deliver to Google’s Employees After Becoming the CEO of Alphabet?

Co-founders of Alphabet Larry and Sergey publically announced the appointment of Sunder Pichai as the CEO of Alphabet via a blog post in Google’s company blog. Dramatically, Larry and Sergey named the title of the post “A letter from Larry and Sergey“. Just after the news got spread across the organization, Pichai sent an email to every single employee of Google.

In the email, Sundar explained how his appointment as a CEO won’t affect the current projects they are working on. Nor does he plan to bring radical changes anytime soon. Also, Pichai mentioned how Google has evolved continuously over the years. He said(as mentioned in the letter), in his 15 years at Google, the only constant he has seen changes. Further, he also mentioned how Larry and Sergey refer to this process as “uncomfortably exciting”.

This is what he ended the email with “The founders have given all of us an incredible chance to have an impact on the world. Thanks to them, we have a timeless mission, enduring values, and a culture of collaboration and exploration that makes it exciting to come to work every day. It’s a strong foundation on which we will continue to build. Can’t wait to see where we go next and look forward to continuing the journey with all of you.
