If you are looking to invest in a Ryzen 7 3700x or 3800x build then there two definitive questions that come to mind. Do I future proof my build by going for the X570 motherboard which has been tailor made to work with the new 3000 series chipsets or do I go with the older generation chipset which are still compatible with the older Zen 2 processors manufactured by AMD.

Now there are pros and cons for both the choices. If opt for the more recent X570 motherboards you first of all have future proof hardware and can enjoy blistering speeds with new improvements such as the PCIe 4.0 interfaces. However for these new features you are going to have to shell out a little more cash.

If you opt for the older generation x470 motherboards for your Ryzen 7 3700x or 3800x series chipset then you get good devices at affordable prices while also giving yourself more choices to choose from.

However one thing to keep in mind is the fact that if you are picking up an older X470 or B450 based motherboard you will need to ensure that you are getting one that allows you to perform a BIOS Flashback or atleast get a board that has a compatible BIOS out the box.

If overclocking is what you are going for then the new boards make much better sense to get and if you want to take it a step further and future proof a bit more than you can even go for the new Ryzen 93950x series.

But if the debate is on whether you wanna pick the Ryzen 7 3700x or 3800x then we have a few pointers that you can take into consideration. The Ryzen 7 3800x actually has much lesser power consumption even in overclocked states compared to the older generationThe Ryzen 7 2700x.

So any motherboard that is capable of running this an overclocked Ryzen 7 2700X can easily run the new 3700X and 3800X.

Now let's take a look at some of the best motherboards that we recommend for the Ryzen 7 3700x or 3800x. This selection of motherboard will feature both the older generation of X470 and B450 boards as well as the new X570 variants.
