However, some users have been reporting about issues when they’re using Windows 10 on a gaming computer. Often, their computer will freeze for no good reason while they’re playing their favorite game. There can be a variety of factors that may be the reason behind this issue but the most occurring issue as voted by users is a fault in hardware and outdated drivers. The faults are more visible while playing games as the usage of hardware usage is maximum at that point, which results in CPU freeze and abnormal spikes.

Here are a few solutions to tackle CPU freezes and process hikes in Windows 10.

Performing a scan in areas where your computer is most at the risk of suffering from performance dropouts can rejuvenate it big time, and lead to an optimum performance in a gaming session. Use the System Scan feature of RegInOut System Utilities. Also, it’s Game Boost feature is there to tweak your computer’s capabilities so that you can get the most out of them for an enjoyable and free gaming experience.

Outdated drivers often lead to memory outflow or other such issues that may eventually result in increased CPU usage and game crashes. It is very easy to solve this problem by simply following these steps:

  1. Search for Device Manager in the Start menu and open it.
  2. Once the Device Manager opens, you will be welcomed with various sorts of drivers.
  3. In order to update a certain driver, left-click it and select Update driver.

Solution 2: Optimize For Better Experience

Playing a very demanding (hardware) game on the computer eventually causes the problem of overburdening of the Processor. These games are classified as underpowered games, and to overcome any problem regarding this issue is to optimize the computer for increased resource performance. This can be done by:

  1. Right-click This PC and select Properties.
  2. Locate Advanced system settings in the left pane and click it.
  3. Now click the Settings button under Performance heading.
  4. Select Adjust for best performance.
  5. Click OK | OK.
  6. Restart your computer to apply the changes.

Solution 3: Perform Defragmentation on the Hard Disk

Many complaints regarding Windows 10 are about an extremely slow system and high usage of CPU. The problem behind such issues can sometimes be a fragmented hard disk. It may cause the computer longer to read and fetch data from the hard disk. Similarly, this anomaly can affect a gaming session as well. So performing defragmentation for all hard drives once a while is highly recommended. The time taken to perform defragmentation for the first time might run into hours, depending on the hard disk size as well as the space occupied. However, simply ignoring this process isn’t a good call at all!

Even better would be to turn on the Scheduled optimization, as it springs into action on a weekly basis regularly without interfering with the user’s work.

Solution 4: Inactivate System Reports

It has been also reported by the users that even the notification tray can source to high CPU utilization. As notifications can lead to higher CPU utilization and more power consumption, you can simply disable the option for notifications.

  1. Open Settings from the Start menu.
  2. Click System.
  3. Now select Notifications & actions from the pane on the left.
  4. Now simply move the slider to the left to turn off notifications for all apps for which you don’t want any notification.
